The new business reality TV program – Angel’s Gate Singapore will be first aired on Channel NewsAsia 6th Feb 2012 8pm. The entire season 1 consists of 8 episodes featuring 24 Asian entrepreneurs each trying to pitch their business ideas to 4 successful investors.

While you may have enjoyed The Apprentice or Dragon’s Den, what makes it special for Angel’s Gate is the unique twist added to the program. Each entrepreneur have only 30 seconds to pitch their ideas to 1 investor in a lift. If the investor is interested in the idea, he will invite the entrepreneur to meet the other investors to explain his business plans further.

Now you can say that the 30 seconds is the “golden ticket” to have a chance to secure funding to fulfill the entrepreneur’s dream, so they must craft their message to be as attractive to the investor as possible. I believe this is the part where you need to apply some marketing headlines so as to get the investor’s attention. This is not difficult and it’s just like reading newspaper or magazine headlines – the one that catches your attention and makes you want to read the rest of the article will be the winner.

In this post, I’m going to show you simple steps how to buy a profitable website. One of the famous quote from Warren Buffett is “Don’t buy cheap, buy undervalued business!” I will be using this concept throughout this article. In reality, there are multi-millionaires created just by buying undervalued businesses, real estate properties (think of  Robert kiyosaki) and now, I borrow these successful concepts and apply them to websites.

One of the major benefits of buying undervalued and profitable websites are that they are much cheaper as compared to brick and mortar business or real estte properties which may require huge cash upfront and bank loans. I love to take bank loans but you have to learn how to manage it otherwise the interest alone might kill you!

Before we even dived into why you should buy a profitable website, let me share a true story of how an entrepreneur able to turn $1,800 into $173,000 in just 3 years and that’s about 95 times return of profit or 9,500% ROI in only 36 months! What happen here is that Dave Hermansen spotted a website called bird-cage.com and discovered that it is under monetized because it does not help it’s audience at all, and therefore classified it as an undervalued web property.

He immediately approach the website owner and able to buy the website for $1,800. In the next 36 months, Hermansen developed into a much better and user friendly eCommerce website that help people to choose the best bird cage based on their passion and requirements, and because this website is generating a monthly income with a sound business model, it is able to fetch a price of $173k. One main reason why this website is able to attract tons of sales in such a short period of time on is because the domain name is called “bird-cage”, which is highly brandable and also happen to be a search term people type into Google to buy bird cages. Needless to say, Google ranked the website “bird-cage.com” on first page of it’s results for many of the “bird cage” related keyword phrases, by just getting some quality backlinks.

While you may not be able to achieve Hermansen’s success immediately, you can model his strategy by buying undervalued websites which are ugly and under monetized but are already ranked on Google search engine results. My favorite way of doing this is to just find some expired domains from Godaddy auctions and then select those which are already getting traffic and check for the domain value via semrush.com, which will tell you what keyword phrases this expired domain name is already ranking for and most importantly, what is the cost per click (CPC) of the keyword phrase.

This is by far the easiest and accurate way of finding gems in expired domain (undervalued web properties), and once you have chosen a valuable domain, simply buy it through the auctions and then go to www.archive.org, type in your newly purchased domain and copy all the old content to build a new website based on the domain. This post is written to share my first marathon (Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2011) experience in response to Dr Cara, a writer with HuffingtonPost on her article “Living Your Own Best Dream This Holiday Season”.

It’s my pleasure to share my first marathon experience with you. 4th Dec 2011 is a day for me to remember, a day that begins a new chapter in my life. I woke up at 3am to do the neccessary preparaions like applying vaseline on my armpits, groin, parts of my feet, and toes in order to prevent any possible abrasions.

I reached the starting point just outside Somerset MRT station at about 15mins to 5pm, joined in the marathon runners. When the marathon starts, I was excited probably due to he cheers, encouragements from people at the starting point. Minutes into the race, I saw some runners going near the bushes, probably releasing the last drop of water from their bladder, looks funny to me though.

As I first ran into east coast park, I saw some of the elite runners already exiting the place at a pace much faster than myself. The first 18km was ok except that I was beginning to feel some muscle cramp coming, stop at the muscle rub station and attended to my thigh. When I reach the half way point 21km, there was a sign saying “It is the next 21km that separates you from the rest”

Within the next 5 mins, I understand that statement – my left leg is down with muscle cramps. I can no longer jog or run, and I have taken 3hrs to complete just half of the marathon. I then apply muscle rubs, stretching­, drink 100plus, only to find my right leg getting muscle cramps after around 25km.
“Should I quit?” Nobody would fault me for giving up for completing more than half of the marathon, considering this is already the longest distance achieved – then I get emotional… Images of failures after failures came flashing in my mind. As a full time entrepreneur since Dec 2005, I had gone through so many failures and tough times…. family & friends have advised me to be practical and kill the dreams – the easy way out is to just go and get a job but I kept my persistence.

Therefore, this marathon is an important race for me, an anchor point to support my success in future. It’s either do or die as I have posted on my Facebook account, I have declared war!! ….. the muscle pain/cramp were gone at this moment, I was determined not to get another failure… At about 35km, it was clear in my mind, the pain/agony could not stop me from reaching the finishing line, I walked and walked, breathe deeper and walk even faster….

In fact, at one point, I was walking quite fast, manage to overtake many people who were walking. I was walking as fast as a lady who was jogging and in the end she stopped, probably got demoralized by my walking speed. At the 40km point, I saw another hero, a marathon runner with a prosthetic leg, preparing for the final stretch to the finishing point. That gives me extra boast to made it to the finishing line because I’m always inspired by heros who achieved their dreams against all odds.

Finally, I cross the finishing line in 7 hours 3 min – It’s done, all the struggles are worth it. I gave a smiling face with my hands up for the photograph­er to take the magic moment – I have challenged myself and won, my mind has now stretched to a point of no return. I’m ready to take on the world and I have become unstoppabl­e!!

As I looked back analyzed the marathon race timings, I took 3 hrs to complete the first 21km by jogging and just 4hrs to complete the next 21km by purely walking with both aching/cramped legs, how was that possible? Then I realized I have got an unfair advantage, some may even call it “cheating”…. It was my iPhone loaded with mp3/podcast of not just ordinary music, but each of them are motivational and kicked my butt to focus on the finishing point.

I thanked God that my iPhone have faithfully played the music for my entire marathon race otherwise I would have given up! Of course, the reason why I ran my first marathon even though I never liked running, was because I was inspired by Team Hoyt and their message “You Can!” & “You can do anything you want if you put your heart and soul into it!”

Now, what’s stopping you from Success?? The answer should be “Nothing!” If you have doubts, I challenge you to complete a full marathon, I can guarantee you that after you cross the finishing line, your life will change!!

If you have been following the latest news, you may wonder what is Occupy Portland all about? As of this writing, there are over 200 protesters who are against the wall street greed at Oregon. I believe it all started from the Occupy Wall Street event at lower Manhattan that stretches all the way to Broadway on Sept. 17. The answer to our current economic problems? Entrepreneurs! Our world need good and ethical entrepreneurs to create real jobs for people and improve their living standards. While my heart goes out to protestors who have lost their jobs and are disappointed with the government, I feel it’s also not right to go to the streets and protest as this probably wouldn’t solve the root of the problem.

Fortunately, there are practical steps you can take to achieve financial freedom and earn a living without depending on your lousy paycheck. While you may not become a billionaire like Bill Gates, you can seriously earned a full time income online enough to pay your bills and live life at your own terms.
